Nick Bell Photography

I’ve been a freelance photographer based out of Starkville, MS since 2011. It is something that I enjoy doing on the side when I have time. I have always had an artistic eye and I found that I can best express my creativity through the lens of a camera.

As a sketch artist or painter brings their vision to life on paper or a canvas, I bring my vision to life with a camera. Most of my photos are projects that I come up with on my own. I get an idea for a shoot, look up examples to see how other artists have done similar shots, I research and experiment with camera and light settings, find a subject (if needed) and set up to shoot.

For years I mainly shot nature photography, and I still love to do that. Nature is something that most people take for granted. As an artist, when I look at nature and see all the intricate details and beauty, I know that it didn’t just appear from random chance. Something so beautiful and complex must have been created by someone much more talented and intelligent that me. To me, the beauty of nature declares the handiwork of the ultimate artist, God.

More recently, I have gotten into photographing people. As someone who has dealt with insecurities and self-image issues, I understand just how powerful a photo of someone can be. I aim to capture the beauty and value in the people I photograph. I want to give them something that they can look at and feel better about themselves. In a world that is so judgmental and negative, I want people to see their beauty and value. It is important to note that one’s beauty and value doesn’t just come from their appearance, it comes from their soul, their inner being. Even though a camera only shows their visible appearance, I try to bring out and capture the beauty of their soul in my photos.
